Uranium
Its a tight market! It takes a long time to bring on supply..Just like everything else these days..Annual demand for nuclear fuel is now equal to about 180 million pounds of Uranium, while only 108 million pounds of ore were produced in 2005, according to estimates by Ux Consulting.
Meanwhile, there are about 140 new reactors planned worldwide, many in Asia, verses the existing 440 today. Current demand for nuclear fuel is being supplemented by Uranium stockpiles, estimated at around 100 million pounds, and other sources such as downbleeding of warheads by Russia and reprocessing of nuclear tailings.
Cameco and BHP look to be the primary suppliers going forward...Another example of demand exceeding supply!
