Highest Ever Monster Waves Observed
A British research team has observed some of the biggest sea swells ever measured. A whole series of giant waves hammered their ship, the RRS Discovery, that were so big that they shouldn't even exist, according to computer models that set standards for ships and oil rigs.
250 miles west of Scotland the 95 foot waves set a new record. The waves appeared in a group. The scientists think a so-called resonance effect was responsible for the waves. This means that the waves and wind traveled across the Atlantic at practically the same speed. The storm was able to pump energy into the waves for a long time....
As the Earth's atmosphere gets warmer with more energy these storms will logically make bigger waves...
Barkly likes boats that are smaller and stay on inland lakes for this very reason...Lake Minnetonka is looking pretty good right now!
